A History of Dudleys Toffee

Dudleys Toffee began in 2013 with a simple idea and a family tradition. The recipe was lovingly passed down through a longtime friend of Brian’s mother, who would make the toffee each holiday season and share it at church events and family gatherings. It quickly became a favorite treat, and people often encouraged the family to find a way to offer it to more people.
Inspired by that encouragement, Brian officially started the business and named it Dudleys Toffee in honor of Dudley Avenue, the street where his parents lived in Indianapolis. In the beginning, the business was more of a dream than a formal operation. Brian had spent more than thirty years in the printing industry and did not yet know how to begin building a food company. Everything changed in 2014.
A colleague encouraged Brian to package the toffee in printing ink cans as a creative nod to his background and bring them to the Apple and Pork Festival in Clinton, Illinois. Brian produced one hundred twenty pounds of toffee and set up a small booth outside a craft mall. By the end of the weekend, he had sold every single piece. That moment showed that this family recipe had an audience far beyond friends and relatives.
When the pandemic arrived, Dudleys Toffee faced challenges that many small businesses experienced, and Brian was eventually forced to close that location. Even with that setback, the story did not end.
In 2024, Brian and his wife purchased a home in Beech Grove. With a renewed sense of purpose, Brian transformed their garage into a certified commercial kitchen that passed all inspections by the Indiana Department of Health and is registered with the Food and Drug Administration. It was a return to the heart of the original idea: small batches, careful craftsmanship, and a product made to be shared with others.
Today, Dudleys Toffee continues to honor its roots while pursuing new opportunities to reach more communities across the country. With a growing online presence and steady involvement in local markets, Dudleys Toffee is focused on sharing the sweetness of handcrafted toffee with everyone. It is a business built on family, community, and a recipe that brings people together. The same commitment to quality and care remains at the center of every batch we make.
